We may be thinking that winter will never end, but honestly spring isn’t all that far away!
So with that in mind it’s more than likely that your caravan will be coming out of hibernation and looking forward to another season on the open road.
Here are some tips to ensure that both you and your caravan are ready for the new caravan season.
Traditionally the caravan season kicks off around Easter time, but for those of you with more time on your hands you may be preparing to set off soon if you haven’t already done so. It’s important for your caravan to be ready for the new season, if checks aren’t carried out beforehand then you could be looking at spoiled holidays and a large repair bill, so it’s important to prepare in advance.
Whilst you can check your van over yourself, it’s a good idea to get a professional service carried out giving you peace of mind before you hit the road. Check these as well as any connections for any frost or damp damage. Whilst most caravans are hardy, its always advisable to check for any winter damage.
So your caravan has been static throughout winter, any heating that takes place will be prone to subsequent mildew (read our article: How to manage damp and mould in your caravan for advice) so a good clean both inside and out is necessary.
Check that the hitching, wheels and tyres are all in order. Tyres can develop bald patches whilst being static for a length of time so inspect for damage, corrosion or other signs of wear and tear. See our SPARE PARTS listing here.
With all the other checking that needs to happen to get our caravans ready for the new season, we can sometimes neglect restocking the bits and bobs that have vanished or broken. So check for the corkscrew, replacement handle for the kettle or other sundries. Visit our ONLINE ACCESSORIES STORE to replenish your stock.
So the summer’s coming, folks – start getting your caravan ready!
